Provisional advice

Thrips

  • Preventative
Use Hypoaspis aculeifer for slabs or pots.Set out 4000 Amblyseius swirskii slow-release bags per hectare one to two weeks prior to flowering. If no thrips or whitefly are present, the introduction should be repeated after five to six weeks.
  • Curative (after detection of thrips)
Upon finding the first thrips, 0.5 Orius laevigatus per m2 should be introduced in order to combat the adult thrips.

Whitefly

  • Preventative
Introduce Amblyseius swirskii slow-release bags one to two weeks prior to flowering: 4000 bags per hectare.
If no thrips or whitefly are present, the introduction should be repeated after five to six weeks.
  • Curative
Release three to six parasitic wasps per m² (Encarsia formosa and Eretmocerus eremicus) on a weekly basis as soon as the first whitefly is spotted.
