Introduction

Integrated crop protection is becoming more and more common in chrysanthemum cultivation. Thrips and spider mite are common infestations. The damage threshold for thrips varies per cultivar and per colour. The crop can tolerate only very low levels of infestation. Amblyseius cucumeris can contribute significantly to combating thrips, as long as it is released into the crop in good time and in sufficient numbers. A. cucumeris also has a side effect in combating spider mite. Amblyseius swirskii can make a valuable contribution to the improvement of the integrated control of thrips and spider mite in chrysanthemum crops. The best effect is gained by blowing predatory mites over the crop. This results in uniform dispersal, and the predatory mites can get straight to work.
